Fort Mcmurray, Alberta
Project Overview
Inner City Diesel was called to the scene of his canal dredging project and was able to restore reliable and steady water flow to a process plant by removing heavy sediment buildup that had accumulated over time.
The silt and sand deposits had severely restricted water movement, creating operational challenges and threatening production efficiency.
Inner City Diesel was brought in to deliver a fast, efficient solution capable of handling the remote conditions, tight canal access, and demanding production targets and timeline expectations.

The dredging work took place in a narrow canal located within a remote section of an oilsands operation near Fort McMurray, Alberta.
With limited access and confined space within the canal, this situation made traditional dredging methods inefficient and risky. The overall conditions required specialized equipment capable of operating in tight quarters without sacrificing performance or production timing.
Inner City Diesel supplied and operated a Rotomite 6000 self-propelled dredge, along with a crew boat, an experienced dredge operator, and support labour to complete the project.
Mobilization was successfully completed within just 4 hours, and the dredging process began the same day – which minmized unnecessary downtime and accelerated progress.
The client required an expert team that could deliver results safely, efficiently, and without extensive setup delays.
With our extensive dredging experience, leading-edge equipment, and ability to mobilize quickly, Inner City Diesel was the clear choice to complete this project in a timely and safe manner.
The Rotomite 6000’s power, agility, and self-propelled design made it the ideal choice for navigating narrow, hard-to-reach canals while maintaining continuous production – safely.

This project came with a unique set of obstacles that the Inner City Diesel team was able to navigate.
If the client had decided to utilize a traditional anchor-based dredging setup, it would have slowed production and required additional support vessels. In an area with this level of limited space, this could have caused additional delays or equipment issues.
Enlisting the self-propelled Rotomite 6000 eliminated those limitations entirely.
Mobilization: August 30, 2025 (4 Hours)
Active Dredging: 45 Days
The canal dredging project was completed in a safe and efficient manner, and on schedule – without any incidents.

The canal dredging project achieved outstanding results:
By restoring the canal with the Rotomite 6000 dredger, Inner City Diesel’s client was able to regain full water flow to the process plant, avoiding costly downtime and eliminating the need for alternative water-hauling solutions that would have further delayed production.
The Rotomite 6000 played a key role in the project’s success. With its self-propelled mobility, lightweight discharge piping, and flex connections, it allowed a two-person crew to operate continuously in tight conditions.
The dredge’s design also eliminated the need for anchors or multiple support vessels – reducing labour requirements and increasing operational efficiency overall.

“I was very skeptical if this dredge would provide the service we requested in the amount of time we had allotted, but after seeing it in action, I am very impressed. I have been dredging and supervising dredging for 15 years, and I have never seen a dredge move and control like that little dredge before. The lightweight discharge piping and flex connections were also an excellent idea and I believe a must for that dredge, as standard poly pipe would not allow the maneuverability, as I’ve witnessed watching it in action.
In standard dredging, even for a small job, it takes quite a bit of manpower, materials, and boat support from dropping anchors, fueling, positioning dredges, moving discharge lines, etc. But this dredge delivered on what was sold to us as being totally self-sufficient.
A 2-man crew was able to dredge, fuel, and move discharge lines to clean up our canal, allowing my entire pond maintenance crew to focus on winter prep and other jobs.
I will certainly have this dredge in mind for the next job that pops up.
Thank you.”
Through the use of specialized equipment, expert operation management, and rapid mobilization, Inner City Diesel helped restore vital water capacity to the canal – bringing production back online quickly and safely.
This project demonstrates Inner City Diesel’s expertise in precision dredging, remote site execution and management, and reliable heavy-duty performance under pressure.
